Some companies put out lighter versions of their perfumes, seemingly to allow fans of their products to continue to wear them all year long. (More likely, however, it's simply to milk more money out of the buying public.) Personally, I appreciate having more summery versions of some of my favorite cold-weather scents. On occasion, even in the warm months, I want to be comforted by a spicy scent, but don't want to have to sit in a heavy cloud of spice all day. I was delighted recently to find light versions of two of my favorites.
Fendi
Theorema Esprit d'EteNotes: California tangelo, Thai shamouti, jasmine, osmanthus, Afghan spices, cinnamon, pink pepper, cream, amber, macassar, Mysore sandalwood, gaiac wood, musk
Esprit d'Ete, or Spirit of Summer, has a very similar sort of warm smell as the original
Theorema, but it has been toned down several notches. The tangelo and cream make it smell like a spicy, woodsy, creamsicle with hints of cinnamon and sandalwood on a nice musky amber base. Although lightened considerably, the fragrance is still very rich - I might tweak the floral aspects a bit to make them more pronounced, or subdue the spices a tad. It was perfect to wear in the unseasonably warm weather we experienced early in the year

, however, so it may be just the thing for a late summer evening.

Mira BaiNotes: bergamot, peach, blackcurrant, plum, rosewood, rose, jasmine, vanilla, cedarwood, sandalwood, amber
Although not advertised as such
, Mira Bai is a light version of another of my favorite scents,
Casmir. Their bottles even share the same cap.
Mira Bai's opening notes are lightly fruity and predominately peach/plum, as in
Casmir, but with undertones of rose and jasmine rather than spicy carnation. The drydown is soft with vanilla and amber, and a hint of woods in the background. Although
Casmir isn't a heavy scent,
Mira Bai, in comparison, is much lighter, yet still rich and warm, making it an ideal scent for Spring.
